Result counts

Web results carry a count line. The number is how many distinct results Suede has actually retrieved for your query — a count, not an estimate.

Reading the number

• 50+ results — at least 50 distinct results are ready, and more remain upstream. The number grows as you page deeper.
• 138 results (no plus) — the end has been reached: 138 is the exact number of distinct results this query yields.

Every page of results is filled with deduplicated entries — a result you saw on page 2 never reappears on page 5 — and the count reports exactly that set.

Why there is no "About 1,240,000 results"

Search engines traditionally print an estimate of every page that might match, derived from index statistics. Those figures aren't counts of anything you could retrieve, and they overstate what the engine will actually serve by orders of magnitude. Suede shows the retrievable number instead: smaller, and true.

The count appears on web search only; image, news, video, and shopping results don't show one.
