Close your account
Closing your account cancels your plan, signs you out everywhere, and schedules the account for deletion. You have 7 days to change your mind by signing in again; after that, deletion is permanent.
Before you close
- Closing cancels billing. Your subscription is cancelled the moment you confirm; you do not need to cancel it separately first. Restoring the account later does not restart it — you choose a plan again.
- You have 7 days to change your mind. Sign in again within 7 days and confirm, and the account comes back exactly as you left it. After 7 days it is deleted and cannot be reopened; to use Suede again you would sign up fresh, which starts a new plan.
- API keys stop working. Any API keys you created stop working the moment you confirm, so anything calling the API on your behalf will begin to fail. They work again if you restore the account within the window.
- Download your data first if you want a copy. Settings → Account → Download your data exports your account data; the export is no longer available once the account is deleted.
How to close
- Go to Settings → Account, to the Danger zone, and choose Close account.
- Read what will happen, enter your current password, and tick the acknowledgement.
- Choose Permanently close my account.
The instant you confirm, Suede cancels your subscription, marks the account for deletion, and revokes every session — so you are signed out on every device at once, and the account can no longer sign in anywhere except to restore itself.
Changing your mind
Within 7 days, sign in as usual. Instead of the search page you reach a notice that the account is scheduled for deletion, with the date. Choose Restore my account: deletion is cancelled, and your settings, views, rules, redirects, API keys, and preferences are exactly as you left them. Choose Keep it closed and sign out to leave the countdown running.
Your plan was cancelled when you closed the account, so choose a plan again under Settings → Membership before searching.
What is deleted, and what is kept
When the 7 days end, deletion runs automatically — within about an hour of the window closing.
Deleted: the account and its sign-in, every session, your API keys, settings and preferences, views and rules, snaps and shortcuts, redirect rules, saved result designs, engine profiles, and Suede's reference to your saved payment method, so nothing can charge it again. Support conversations are stripped of everything that identifies you.
Kept, under a pseudonymous account number that no longer resolves to you:
| Record | Why | For how long |
|---|---|---|
| Billing records — invoices, subscription history, credit ledger and balance, promo redemptions. No name, email, or address. | Tax and accounting law; payment disputes | Ten full calendar years after the year you closed the account |
| Security records — sign-in and account-activity records, and the record of your agreement to the Terms | Fraud prevention; establishing or defending legal claims, where the law allows | For as long as those purposes require |
| Content-free API usage counts | Capacity planning and API billing | For as long as those purposes require |
None of these records contains search content.
If you only want to step away rather than delete the account, you may prefer to sign out of all devices and leave the account in place.
