常见问题
Why is there no free version?
Because "free" search isn't free — you pay with your attention and your data. Ad-funded engines make their money profiling you and selling ads against your results; independent estimates put that take well above $20 a month per user. Suede charges a fair membership instead, so you're the customer, not the inventory: no ads, no trackers, no ranking for sale.
Do you track me? What do you log?
We don't tie your queries to your identity, we don't sell data, and we don't build advertising profiles — your membership is the entire business model. We log only what's needed to run and bill the service, not a per-user history of what you searched.
You have my payment details. How is that private?
Billing and searching are separate concerns. Your card lives with our payment processor and identifies your subscription; your searches aren't attached to it.
Is it actually better than Google?
Different, and for most members better where it counts: no ads or sponsored placements, no SEO slop you've blocked, sources you trust ranked where you put them. Decide for yourself — !g re-runs any search on Google anytime. The test we care about: members who stop feeling the need to double-check us there.
Can I make Suede my browser's default search?
Yes. Desktop browsers pick Suede up automatically (OpenSearch) or add it in two clicks; the Android app registers as your device's search engine; the iOS Safari extension redirects Safari searches to Suede. Your !bangs keep working exactly as you'd expect.
Do you put AI in my results, or train AI on my data?
No AI-written answers are injected into your results, and we don't train AI models on your data. The only machine step is one you invoke: one-tap translation of a foreign-language result.
What if I want to leave?
Cancel anytime from your account — monthly or annual, two clicks, no retention maze. Export your Search Control rules in standard formats (uBlacklist, hosts) and take them with you. Closing your account permanently deletes your data.
