Firefox (desktop & Android)

Firefox is supported on both desktop and Android. The manual method works today on both, and on desktop the Suede add-on is available now — it sets Suede as your default for you (on Firefox for Android, use the manual method).

Manual method — works today

Firefox adds a site's search engine from the site itself (via OpenSearch), so the quickest path is:

Firefox desktop

  1. Open suede.io and sign in.
  2. Click the address bar. Firefox detects Suede's search descriptor and shows a search-engines control — click it and choose Add Suede (you may see a small "+" on the search icon, or find Add "Suede" in the address-bar drop-down).
  3. Make it the default: Settings → Search → Default Search Engine → Suede (or about:preferences#search).

If your Firefox does not offer to add Suede automatically, add it from Settings → Search → Search Shortcuts → Find more search engines, or use the OpenSearch auto-discovery flow (it reads the same descriptor).

Firefox for Android

  1. Open suede.io in Firefox and sign in.
  2. Tap the ⋮ menu → Settings → Search.
  3. Under Default search engine, tap Add search engine. If Suede was auto-detected from the page it appears in the list; otherwise choose Other and enter:
    • Name — Suede
    • Search string to use — https://suede.io/search?q=%s
  4. Select Suede as the default.

Suede add-on

The Suede Search add-on registers Suede as a search engine — with private suggestions and a suede address-bar keyword — and asks, on install, to make it your default.

Firefox desktop — available now

  1. Open Suede Search on Firefox Add-ons and click Add to Firefox.
  2. Confirm the Add prompt.
  3. Firefox asks, once, whether the add-on may make Suede your default search engine — approve it. You can revisit the choice any time under Settings → Search.
