Settings
Every preference lives on one page: Settings. The sections run down the left — Display; Search, with a tab per result type (Web, Images, News, Videos, Shopping); Navigation; Layouts; Utilities; Account; Billing & Usage; and API — and the matching panel fills the rest of the page. Selecting a section shows its panel.
Switches and the appearance controls apply the moment you use them. The Search (and its per-type tabs), Navigation, and Utilities panels also carry an explicit Save for their form fields, because those settings are stored on your account and travel to every device you sign in on.
Find a setting by typing
A search box sits at the top of the sidebar. Type any part of a setting's name and the page narrows to the matches as you type, across every section at once — there is no need to know which section a setting lives in. The match is on the setting's name, its description, its section and group, a list of synonyms, and every option value, so a search finds a setting by something you would actually call it:
| Type | Finds |
|---|---|
dark |
Theme (the dark option) |
utm |
Remove tracking parameters |
nsfw |
Global safe search, and each result type's own safe-search switch |
japan |
Display language · Region · Language |
new tab |
Open results in a new tab |
Each result names the setting and the section it belongs to; selecting one jumps to that setting and highlights it.
Matching is case-insensitive, and a query of several words requires all of them — dark contrast narrows to
the appearance controls that mention both. Clearing the box restores the full page.
What is where
| Section | Holds |
|---|---|
| Display | The appearance controls (theme, high contrast, text size) and the display language — every setting here applies the moment you choose it. |
| Search | Your default region and language, the dangerous-sites filter, global safe search, Verbatim mode, and your Search Control rules, Views (with import/export), and snaps. See Search Control. |
| Search → Web · Images · News · Videos · Shopping | Per-type preferences: results per page and a default layout (List or Grid) for web and news, display modes for images and videos, and a safe-search switch for each type. |
| Navigation | Bangs — the ! shortcuts that jump to other sites — rewriting result links before you open them (managed recommendations plus your own rules), opening results in a new tab, and removing tracking parameters from the links you open. See Redirects. |
| Layouts | The List and Grid result-layout designers — arrange and restyle how results render. Web and News each choose which layout they use. |
| Utilities | Citations — the copy-citation style and custom template — translation preferences, and voice input. |
| Account | Your email, member-since date, active sessions, and account closure. |
| Billing & Usage | Your plan, payment method, and prepaid API credits. See Suede Pro membership. |
| API | API keys. See Authentication. |
The API section is hidden from the sidebar until you turn on Show Developer section under Billing & Usage.
It is never unreachable: a search for api or key still finds it, and a direct link still opens it.
